Food Recalls Decrease in 2019 as a Result of Government Shutdown

Recent reports document that FDA food recalls declined 36.5% in the first quarter of 2019, marking their lowest point since 2015. The decrease, however, was not due to improved supply chain practices, but rather the government shut down that impacted inspection practices—accentuating a continued need to monitor and improve food supply chains.
